Greetings From Florida

So the move to Florida went well. Well actually, it was a total madhouse, but in hindsight it went fine. Its over now and me and my family are adjusting to our new surroundings. Florida, at first glance, is beautiful. Warm weather, palm trees, ocean. The stereotype that its packed-full elderly people is true to some extent, the winter months do see a flood of retired New-Englanders, but there are young and middle-aged people in Florida also.

My largest worry about Florida was that there would be no culture here. While I despised art galleries and intellectual snobs in New York, I feared that if they were all gone I would really be somewhat lost. Luckily, the retired east coast snowbirds bring the entire art scene with them when they migrate south for the winter. Art galleries follow the money like ants, and I have already picked up several freelance jobs here in Florida. The summer may be a totally different situation that has yet to be seen.

I have yet to get started on a new body of work, but it is now a matter of only time. I have a large garage in my house that is soon to be studio converted. Right now it is full with my old work, and soon I will have alternate storage. As for now, I am enjoying the weather (80 degrees in February), taking Paul out for swimming three times a week, running everyday, and scouting my surroundings.

We’ll talk more soon, thanks for reading.

Picture Descriptions:

Thankfully Paul learned to crawl moments after our move and spared us his mobility while in our tiny New York apartment. Parenting is pretty cool, but that little lump is gone and is now a moving, grabbing, cutie that sticks everything in his mouth. This is my new living room. My apartment is huge here in Florida. It is equal to a New York City mansion. We have a serious furniture problem, which is that we have so little furniture after coming from NYC. Friends are always welcome to sleep over, that is once I buy a couch.

This is my garage and future studio. Its an awful mess right now, but the potential is there.

congrats on the move! I was purging my "friends" list of spammers off myspace, but you and evelyn weren't on my list anymore! did you guys disappear?

i know, myspace is probably the shallowest thing to exist ever, and i should delete my account. but it is just so addicting...

keep in touch and good luck on your new life in "america's wang" as homer simpson so eloquently put it!
